A stun gun is an electrical device that uses high voltage and low amperage to affect an attacker. When the prongs on the stun device touch a person it can quickly immobilize them. However, because the amperage is very low, no serious or permanent injury is inflicted. Only in RARE Cases have serious injury been reported to happen.
The stun device was designed to affect the nervous system. Its energy pulses into the muscles at a high frequency pulse that causes the muscles to work very rapidly, but not efficiently. This rapid energy cycle uses up the blood sugar by converting it to lactic acid. This all happens within seconds of using the stun device on the subject. The result of this energy cycle makes it difficult for the person to move and function. At the same time, the tiny electrical neurological impulse that radiates throughout the body to control muscle movement are interrupted. This causes disorientation, loss of equilibrium, and leaves the attacker in a passive and confused condition for several minutes.
The spark that emits from the stun device will not pass from the person being stunned to the person doing the stunning. The effect is localized to the area that is being stunned and does not pass through the body. Most attacks happen when an attacker grabs hold of a victim from behind. A person does not always have the opportunity to use a stun device while at a distance from an attacker. This is one of the greatest advantages of such a device because you can safely use the stun device even when an attacker is in contact with you.
